As Mayor, I am committed to putting the residents of Waterbury first. Below you will find my top priorities for my campaign which are centered around improving and enhancing the lives of our Residents.




#1-Taxes

Cut spending and impose a freeze on expenditures within the city system. Audit every department. Propose a revision of the charter to ensure that the board of aldermen is not solely responsible for approving tax increases. Introduce the implementation of referendums, enabling residents to exercise their voting rights and have a say in deciding on tax hikes.


Youth-

Investing in Our Youth: Creating Opportunities for a Bright Future.

In our mayoral campaign, we will prioritize addressing the concerns of our youth and providing them with meaningful opportunities for growth and success. We understand that punitive measures alone cannot solve the challenges faced by our young generation. Therefore, we are committed to investing in our youth by introducing a range of dynamic initiatives.

Firstly, we aim to expand and diversify our youth programs. By investing in more youth programs, we can offer a wider array of opportunities that cater to the diverse interests and talents of our young residents. Whether it's arts, sports, academics, or entrepreneurship, we believe in providing a comprehensive range of programs that empower our youth to explore their passions and unlock their full potential.  

Additionally, we recognize the importance of mentorship and hands-on learning experiences. Through our "Each One Teach One" initiative, we aim to establish a robust mentorship program where experienced professionals from various fields will guide and inspire our young residents. Moreover, we will collaborate with area businesses to create internship opportunities for young individuals aged 16 and above. This will enable them to gain practical skills, explore potential career paths, and form valuable connections within our city.
By investing in our youth, we invest in our city's future. Together, let's create a supportive environment that fosters growth, innovation, and success for all. Join us in our mission to empower our youth and build a brighter future for our community.

Affordable Housing-

Affordable housing is not just a necessity, but a basic human right. However, our current high taxes, indicative by the mill rate, have made it increasingly difficult for our area residents to access affordable housing. As a solution, on a local level, we can enforce regulations to prevent landlords from charging excessive rents. It is crucial for us to prioritize lowering taxes for our residents, ensuring that they can afford adequate housing.


Education-
For our mayor campaign, I propose a revised education policy that focuses on two key areas: increasing funding to ensure fair compensation for our teachers, paraprofessionals, and janitors, and collaborating with the Board of Education to introduce certified trade programs within our school system, aiming to equip students with employable skills upon graduation in all high schools.

To begin, it is imperative that we secure additional funding to adequately pay our dedicated educators and support staff. By prioritizing fair compensation packages, we not only attract and retain high-quality professionals, but also recognize the invaluable contributions they make to our students' education and overall well-being. This will require working closely with city officials, stakeholders, and the community to explore sustainable funding options and advocate for increased investment in our education system.

Furthermore, our vision for education extends beyond traditional academic pathways. To better prepare our students for the job market, we must collaborate with the Board of Education to introduce certified trade programs within all high schools. By offering specialized training in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, healthcare, or technology, we can empower students with practical skills and create pathways to meaningful employment upon graduation. This initiative will require engaging with local businesses, unions, and industry experts to design comprehensive trade programs that align with market demands and ensure students receive industry-recognized certifications.

In summary, by prioritizing increased funding to support fair compensation for our educators and by introducing certified trade programs within our school system, we can provide students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in both academic and vocational pursuits. Let us work together to create a brighter future for our students and the community as a whole.


Economic Development - Entrepreneurship, Small Business Growth, and Neighborhood Land Trust-

Our vision for economic development revolves around fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, supporting the growth of small businesses, and ensuring the equitable distribution of land in our city. As part of our strategy, we propose the establishment of a neighborhood land trust, wherein shares of land will be distributed to residents if the city grants land to developers. This approach will empower our community members and ensure that they have a stake in the development of their neighborhoods.

In addition to the neighborhood land trust, we aim to utilize tax incentives to encourage companies to invest in our community and contribute to its sustainable development. To achieve this, we propose offering tax incentives based on the number of employees a company has residing in our city. By prioritizing local employment, we not only create job opportunities for our residents but also enhance the sense of community and ensure that our economic growth benefits those who call our city home.

Recognizing the value of mentorship in nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs, we also propose implementing the "Each One Teach One" mentorship program. Companies that actively engage in mentoring aspiring business owners will receive tax breaks.  The Each One Teach One initiative will enable experienced professionals to share their knowledge, providing aspiring entrepreneurs with the guidance and support their need to succeed.

Through our focus on entrepreneurship, small businesses, the establishment of a neighborhood land trust, and the implementation of tax incentive programs, we aim to create an environment that fosters innovation, nurtures local talent, and drives sustainable economic growth in our city. Together, let's build a future grounded in opportunity, prosperity, and community ownership.

Better quality of life

Our primary focus is addressing blight and addressing the longstanding issue of neglected neighborhoods. We are committed to improving street paving and sidewalks, ensuring that all neighborhoods receive equal attention and resources. Waterbury is one cohesive city, and we believe that every neighborhood should have the same level of infrastructure and support.


Civil Service Exam

As part of our vision, we aim to elevate opportunities for our community members and provide them with an edge in the Civil Service Exam.


To achieve this objective, we propose a significant modification - increasing the number of points awarded for the Civil Service Exam from 5 to 10 points. By doubling the point system, we aim to give Waterbury residents a distinct advantage over their counterparts, ensuring a fairer evaluation process and an increased likelihood of success.


We firmly believe that every individual in our community possesses immense potential, and it is our responsibility as a city to support their aspirations and open doors to success. This transformational change in our campaign reflects our commitment to leveling the playing field and empowering our fellow residents to achieve their goals.
With this new approach, we are confident that Waterbury will continue to flourish as a city that prioritizes fairness, equal opportunity, and inclusive growth. Together, we can build a better future for all residents of Waterbury.




Homelessness

Homelessness is an urgent issue that demands our immediate attention in Waterbury, CT. As the second highest taxed town in the state, our community is facing not only financial strain but also a growing risk of residents becoming homeless due to the recent property tax hike. To compound the problem, a significant portion of our homeless population is faced with mental illness, calling for increased funding to combat this issue and provide more affordable housing options.

It is imperative that our city takes swift action to tackle these challenges head-on. As Mayor, I will prioritize the following initiatives to address homelessness effectively:
1. Affordable Housing Expansion: To prevent more residents from falling into homelessness, we must increase the availability of affordable housing options across Waterbury. I will work vigorously to secure funding and collaborate with local organizations and developers to create safe, affordable homes for those in need.
2. Mental Health Services: Recognizing the link between homelessness and mental illness, I will advocate for increased funding for mental health programs specifically targeted at addressing the needs of our homeless population. By providing comprehensive mental health support, we can empower individuals to regain stability and reintegrate into society.
3. Collaboration with Community Organizations: The fight against homelessness requires a collective effort. I will actively collaborate with local nonprofits, community organizations, and faith-based groups that have proven expertise in assisting the homeless population. Together, we can establish stronger support networks and provide the necessary resources for a path out of homelessness.
4. Job Training and Employment Opportunities: Breaking the cycle of homelessness also means focusing on sustainable solutions. I will establish partnerships with businesses and vocational training programs to equip individuals experiencing homelessness with the skills and job opportunities they need to achieve self-sufficiency.

Waterbury deserves a compassionate and proactive leader who will make homelessness a top priority. Together, let us work towards a future where every resident has a safe place to call home, where mental health is prioritized, and where affordable housing is accessible to all.
